President's Corner

Welcome to The Black Student Union at the George Washington University! Founded in 1968,

The Black Student Union’s goal, above all else, is to create a Black experience where all

Black students feel supported, welcomed, advocated for, and cared for.

My name is Gianna Cook and I am a senior studying English with a minor in Criminal Justice in the Columbian College of Arts & Sciences. I am from New Jersey and I am passionate about fostering belonging within communities. My goal is to ensure that every Black student feels welcome and included on the GWU campus. As your president, I have had the honor of serving one term where we were able to have a social and cultural reset after a remote year. My team and I have accomplished so much to rewrite the narrative here at GW because of your trust in us.  We are honored to serve and look forward to the continued success of our community.

The Black Student Union at GWU embodies the multifaceted identities of our community. We pride ourselves on collective action, collaboration, and commitment towards leaving our Black legacy. I emphasize "we" in this sentiment because without your support, engagement, and contributions to these aspects of BSU it would not be possible. As we make these steps, our community will keep the resilient soul of Black GW alive as we defy, create and inspire.

Now, as we enter a new year full of possibilities let us pull together as a community to amplify Black voices and create change. Welcome to the Black Student Union!
